Negeri 5 Menara is a novel written by Muhammad Baqir Jamaat. This novel has been published in English on December 23, 2009. The story revolves around two childhood friends from the same small coastal town of Padang Pariaman, West Sumatera. The friends are originally named as Aisya and Fitri, but those names are later changed into Novel and Vika respectively due to the necessity for secrecy at some point in the series. They had some differences that caused them to drift apart as they grew up except for one thing: their love for novels. They both have a tendency to read quite a number of novels, although Aisya being the more dedicated reader. In a series of events, which they were never expecting, Aisya and Fitri ended up in the same high school after all. Their lives changed drastically as they had to endure their experiences with school life as well as those that happened outside the school. However, those were just minor issues as Aisya's father's career as a journalist led him to face more danger than he ever expected. In this new chapter of his life he found himself entangled in international political affairs that threatened not just his own life but also that of his family and friends. The danger which seemed to be threatening the stability of the nation speedily grew stronger when one of the highest ranking politicians in Indonesia wanted to hide certain things about the conflicts in Aceh.
